The Rainbow Sierrans is excited to be offering a camping trip close to home. Come join us! Sugarloaf Ridge State Park is located in Sonoma County near the town of Glen Ellen.

Key features of the park include:

Amazing views overlooking the North Bay with vistas to San Francisco, Napa Valley, Mt. St Helena and the Sierras on clear days!
Headwaters to Sonoma Creek, Sugarloaf boasts a 25-foot waterfall after the winter rains.
Diverse beauty – Sugarloaf runs through gorge and canyon, across the meadow floor, beneath scenic rock outcroppings, and is surrounded at times by redwoods and ferns.
Over 25 miles of hiking trails. From an easy 1-mile nature trail to a challenging 8.2-mile loop over Bald Mountain
Spectacular wildflower displays in the early to late spring and early summer.
Great mountain biking and horseback riding accessible trails.
Bathrooms with hot showers.
Robert Ferguson Observatory, which houses a 40″ telescope and offers public viewings throughout the year. It’s the largest observatory dedicated solely to public viewing and education.
Visitor Center with park historic information and a gift shop.

Rainbow Sierrans camping trips feature a variety of hikes as well as camaraderie around propane fire pits, with options for a game night, sing-alongs and/or a dance party depending on the participants' interests.

There is potable water, many tables, and vault toilets at the group site. Across the creek are flush toilets and pay showers. There is a visitor center that sells ice and minimal camping necessities.

For this trip, small campers, vans, and trailers will also be allowed.
Registration is limited to 35 participants, first come, first served. Priority goes to Rainbow Sierrans members. If the trip does not fill within 10 days, non-members will be allowed to register. The cost of the trip is $60 for members.

Important details to consider before registering

A Medical Form and Participant agreement will be required to complete the registration process. The Sierra Club will hold onto all medical forms for 10 years.

Pets: Sorry, no pets allowed. Note: this restriction applies to emotional support and therapy pets. Contact a leader if you have any questions. DO NOT just show up with a pet.

Should the Governing Committee cancel a camping trip or outing for any reason, all registrants will receive a full refund.

All cancellations must be sent via email to the trip leader. Cancellations received at least 14 days in advance will be automatically refunded the registration fee, less $10 processing fee.

Registration

Participants must register and pay online on the Rainbow Sierrans website.
No registrations will be accepted until an outing has been announced to the full membership via email announcement.
Confirmed reservations are non-transferable.
Once the maximum number of participants is reached, a wait list will be compiled. If a cancellation occurs, individuals will be contacted in the order in which their names appear on the waitlist. Failure to respond within 24 hours will forfeit one’s place on the waitlist. Registration for most trips will close two days in advance of the trip.
Acceptance of any individual on any trip or outing will be at the discretion of the leader for that trip or outing.
Children may accompany an adult on a camping trip at the discretion of the trip leader(s).

Refunds

Cancellations received less than 14 days before a trip will forfeit the full registration fee.
If a personal or family illness or other extenuating circumstances
causes a last minute cancellation, that person may appeal in writing to GovCom for a partial refund. Appeals will be reviewed by Govcom following the trip or outing conclusion, and those deemed eligible for refund will be issued, less $10 processing fee.

Outings leaders

Fifty percent (50%) of the registration fee will be refunded to a qualified Outings Leader who plans and leads a group hike during a camping trip. The number of hike leaders needed and the type of hike needed (e.g. length and challenge level) shall be at the discretion of the trip Leader. Serving as a co-leader for such activities does not qualify for a refund.
