This fall, GLS is teaming up with naturalist Kim Powell and Blue Water Ventures for another amazing kayaking adventure. Leaving from Santa Cruz harbor we'll search for whales and other marine mammals. After our morning paddle we’ll have brunch near the harbor (brunch on own). On this outing we will have the opportunity to explore a part of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary with a knowledgeable naturalist guide. Encompassing 5,322 square miles of ocean, this remarkable sanctuary supports one of the planet's most biologically diverse marine ecosystems. We plan to kayak above the canopy of a kelp forest as we look for some of its residents. During the fall months, Humpback Whales cruise Monterey Bay from the edges of the famous Monterey Bay canyon to the local residential neighborhoods. We look forward to sharing the wonders and wildlife of Monterey Bay with you! Whales can be difficult to spot from a kayak (sightings are not guaranteed), but the biological diversity of the bay with its extraordinary kelp forest ensures we will paddle among other species if not whales.residential neighborhoods.
