Announcing the first GLS campout at Bothe Napa Valley State Park for three nights on Memorial Day Weekend, May 22-25. The group camp is 4 miles from Calistoga and can accommodate 30 campers, so book early! The park itself includes 2 good hikes and a pioneer graveyard .25 mi from our camp. The longer hike is a 7-mile trail through redwoods up Ritchey Creek canyon through historic Waapo Indian camping areas to the top of the ridge. The shorter hike is 2 miles over the hill through woods and along a creek to the Bale Grist Mill, a mill built in 1846, now restored and open on weekends. First class hiking is also available in Robert Louis Stevenson State Park off highway 29, both up Mount St. Helena (10 miles round trip to top and back) or east of 29 up to the spectacular "Palisades" area, a volcanic wall with views overlooking Calistoga and the Napa Valley. In the evenings there are some day use hot springs that can be booked for some of us each night. More details to follow on group spa usage.
