Lakes Basin Labor Day Weekend Campout - 3 nights, September 4-7, 2015

Where else can contemporary seekers of scenic solitude lay claim to a blue-green tiara of over thirty natural, sapphire lakes encrusted in a setting of granite grandeur, framed by pine, fir, and cedar-scented forests?  Lakes Basin in Sierra County! And that’s where GLS is going to be camping over the Labor Day Weekend. Hurrah!  If you have not ventured to this area before, you will not want to miss it.  We have secured campsites at Chapman Creek Campground in the Tahoe National Forest on Hwy. 49 north of Truckee and Nevada City.http://tinyurl.com/nqqbxbx. A large network of hiking trails are available in the area, including the 2-mile Chapman Creek Trail, the Pacific Crest Trail and several routes to the Sierra Buttes.   In addition to more than 30 miles of maintained trails for hikers and bikers, the nearby Lakes Basin area also provides visitors with ample opportunities to enjoy swimming, boating, canoeing and fishing. Anglers will find rainbow and brook trout in many of the scenic bodies of water in the area. A boat ramp is located at Gold Lake. Rowboats can be rented at Sardine Lakes Resort, 5 miles from the campground.

Bonus!!!!! Sierra Hot Springs is 16 miles from our campground near Sierraville and is open 24 hours.

GLS camping trips feature a variety of organized daily hikes (optional and from moderate to strenuous), food and camaraderie around the campfire, The Follies (not to be missed skits and home-grown entertainment), and a potluck dinner one evening. We hope you will join us for what promises to be a wonderful extended weekend in a magical location.

Cost $45.00 per person for GLS members/supporters, $60 for nonmembers.
