Join Marina for one of her new favorite Bay Area hikes: San Bruno Mountain!

San Bruno Mountain is a hidden gem. Often overlooked, as one travels down 101 to SFO or the peninsula, San Bruno Mountain offers wonderful single-track trails and lovely views of downtown San Francisco, S.F. Bay, Twin Peaks, the Sunset District and the Pacific Ocean!

This will be a moderately paced 4-mile loop hike with an elevation gain of about 1600 feet. Much of this hike is exposed with little or no shade. It will be moderate-to-strenuous in difficulty.

We will meet in the parking lot of the San Bruno State Park at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, February 4th. PLEASE NOTE: the parking lot fee is $6 cash per car so carpooling is encouraged.

From the parking lot, we will begin walking under Guadalupe Parkway bridge to meet the Dairy Ravine Trail trailhead. At the trailhead, we will hike up the single track Dairy Ravine Trail to meet the Summit Loop Trail. From here, will hike up Summit Loop Trail to Ridge Trail, which is about a mile. From here, we will take the single-track portion of the Ridge Trail until we meet Radio Road.

At Radio Road, we will turn right and walk up the Radio Road to the summit until we meet the southern portion of the Summit Loop Trail where we will take a break. After the break, we will continue on the Summit Loop Trail, about 3 miles, back to where we started to the trailhead of the Dairy Ravine Trail. This route makes for a lovely loop with wonderful views and single-track trail.

OPTIONAL: Ridge Trail (Adds 3-4 more miles, for a total of 8 miles), at hike leader's discretion

We can hike the Ridge Trail that can add up to 4 total miles to the hike making it an 8-mile hike than a 4-mile hike. The Ridge Trail offers lovely views of the Bay, San Bruno and SFO, but please note that it can be very windy, hilly, and, more importantly, will add 3 to 4 miles to the hike for a total of about 8 miles).

The hike leader's preference is for the shorter loop. We must have consensus from all hikers to do the longer trail but it is still at the hike leader's discretion to do the longer hike.

At Radio Road, We turn left to hike down and back along the fire road (this portion is not a loop and is about 2 miles each way depending how far down we hike the Ridge Trail). The Ridge Trail offers unobstructed views of the Bay (on a clear day), SFO, and San Bruno/the Peninsula. Upon our return to the summit of San Bruno Mountain, we would break for lunch and then hike the Summit Loop Trail, an additional three miles, to the parking lot.

ADVISORY: The ridge trail, a fire road, is entirely exposed to the sun and wind, is quite hilly and much of the return hike will be going up hill!
