Lassen Volcanic National Park

Dark Sky Festival

August 1-4, 2019

The Rainbow Sierrans are excited to return to Lassen Volcanic National Park for a long weekend of hiking, camping, stargazing and swimming in pristine mountain lakes.

This scenic and geologically fascinating park allows us to offer a wide variety of hikes of different lengths. Some hikes pass through areas of geothermal activity (such as Bumpass Hell), others scale peaks and wooded areas, with numerous opportunities for swimming in cold water.

This special camping trip coincides with the annual Lassen Dark Sky Festival, two days of talks, stargazing with astronomers, and workshops and other star-oriented activities. Our campground provides vault toilets, some flush toilets, coin-operated showers and a camp store. Hike during the day, learn about the night sky after dark, and hang out at camp and on the trail with friends from the Rainbow Sierrans. What could be better? Hope you will join us! Trip leaders: Paget Valentas and Nancy Kates.

Cost:

Cost: $60.00 per person for Rainbow Sierrans members; limited scholarships available for those in need
