The Rainbow Sierrans are excited to return to Lassen Volcanic National Park for a long weekend of hiking, camping, stargazing and swimming in pristine mountain lakes.
Local outdoor guru Tom Stienstra describes the glories of Lassen Volcanic National Park, one of his top ten overnight locations, in his Northern California Outdoor Getaway Guide:
"I saw a vacationer wearing a T-shirt that said 'expect a miracle.' …In Lassen Volcanic National Park, the miracle has already happened, a place where everything fits together perfectly...streams, meadows, waterfalls, volcanic peaks, pristine wilderness lakes, boiling volcanic pots...deer and bear, hawks and quail. ...Lassen has it all."
The campout will feature a variety of daily hikes (from moderate to strenuous) through this scenic and geologically fascinating park. Some hikes pass through areas of geothermal activity (such as Bumpass Hell), others scale peaks and wooded areas with numerous opportunities for swimming in cold water. Other activities can include kayaking, swimming, relaxing, birding, stargazing, camaraderie around the campfire, and a potluck dinner one evening. We hope you will join us for what promises to be a wonderful extended weekend in a magical location.

Please read ALL of the following information carefully to make sure this trip is right for you before registering!
*Important Note: Hiking and other recreational activities may be more limited than usual due to the extraordinary snowfall this winter as well as residual effects of the 2021 Dixie Fire. For this reason, campers will need to be flexible and open to alternate activities which could include hanging out, playing games, making art, renting kayaks, or whatever other ideas participants may have. There are also places outside the park such as Burney Falls and Subway Lava Tubes that we may choose to visit.
